SEVEN people were arrested and charged with drug trafficking yesterday in the biggest drug operation in Gladstone since 1998.

The raids kicked off at daybreak, and 20 homes across Gladstone were hit during the morning. A total of 19 local people were arrested and more than $170,000 worth of drugs were seized.

Drugs including cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis were seized, along with guns and mobile phones.

Gladstone district Inspector Graham Coleman said Operation Hotel Rocket, which was carried out in Brisbane as well, had been successful and the raids had unfolded according to plan.

"This puts a major dent in the supply of drugs in Gladstone," Insp Coleman said.

"This has been a well-entrenched drug network within the Gladstone community which has been supplying serious quantities of drugs for a long period of time."

The state drug squad worked in partnership with Gladstone CIB for the past 18 months.

"We couldn't have achieved the results without the assistance of the State Operations Command in Brisbane," Insp Coleman said. …
