POLICE are handing out personal calling cards to local youngsters in a bid to cut youth crime.

Members of the Ashington Neighbourhood Policing Team hope the 'top-trump' cards will help young people get to know them better and will help them become more approachable.

The cards contain pictures of the local Neighbourhood Beat Managers and Community Support Officers, along with their contact details and information on the area they cover.

And each pocket-sized card also has different tips on crime prevention and safety on the reverse.

It is hoped they will make the Neighbourhood Beat Managers familiar faces among young people in the town.

Ashington Neighbourhood Insp Richard Yeats said: "We try and engage with all members of our community, especially the younger people. That''s why we take such an active part in organising and running events like the fortnight of action, to give them something constructive and positive to do with their time while off school. …
