GOLF: Keith Warburton's drive ricocheted favourably off a tree and came to rest in the middle of the fairway.

It was then that he had a feeling it just might be his day.

The Coral Cove Golf Club member went on to shoot 65 net yesterday, coupled with his 71 on Saturday.

It was enough to clinch the Snitzco Easter Cup net trophy by one shot from James Wright.

Wright shot 63 net yesterday but was not able to make the up the ground he had lost on Warburton after a tough first round.

"The conditions were horrible on Saturday; very windy and wet," Warburton said.

"But I thrive on that. I know that people will find it tough and I just grind it out."

Hervey Bay's Brett Richie swooped in and claimed the gross title, shooting 140 across the weekend.

Pre-competition favourite Ryan Mulvany was not far off the pace, while last year's net winner, 10-year-old Nicholas Schneider, was also in with a chance when he started yesterday morning. …
