A 66-YEAR-OLD man is fighting for his life after sustaining aseverea head injuries when he collided with a vehicle while on his bicycle in Rockhampton on Sunday night.

The man was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a serious condition after the accident, which happened at the intersection of George and Archer streets about 8.30pm.

A spokesman from the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital yesterday said the man was in a critical condition in the intensive care unit.

District duty officer Senior Sergeant Marcus Cryer said the man rode though a red light and collided with the front of a Holden Rodeo, which was heading south through the intersection.

"The rider sustained severe injuries," he said.

"A number of witnesses came forward and if anyone else happened to be in the vicinity and witnessed the accident they should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."

One of the first on scene was a Brisbane visitor who had been walking along the road. …
