JOHN GREEN delivered a superb display of box-fighting to win the best senior boxer of the night award on Phil Thomas School of Boxing's 14-bout show at the Beechwood and Easterside Club.

Green was one of five winners from 12 for the Snowdon Road, Middlesbrough, club and produced his best performance yet to beat Forest Hall's Lee Ferguson.

Green won a national novices Under-10 bouts lightweight title in 2008 and showed he has come on leaps and bounds since with a comprehensive unanimous points victory.

Ferguson was a regional quarter-finalist in this season's senior ABA championships but Green took over from the second round, repeatedly landing a sharp left uppercut and working in close to the body.

The pair are all set for a return next Monday on Middlesbrough ABC's show at the Ironopolis Club.

Phil Thomas lionheart James Baxter lost an epic clash to Lee Mould on majority points on the Hylton Castle show a fortnight ago.

And their rematch produced just as much fight-in-a-phone booth excitement as Mould won the vacant Tyne, Tees and Wear welterweight championship belt by the same outcome.

The duo went toe to toe for most of the three rounds, with Mould - who received a warning for repeated low blows - getting over the line thanks to his edge in workrate and experience.

Phil Thomas SOB coach Ron Cave said: "All that James lacks at the moment is a little bit of experience. Mould knows a bit more with the infighting but Baxter is very sharp and tough and with a bit more experience will catch them all up.

"He is one of a few late starters at our club, like John Green, Ben Falaja and Tab Simamanie, and they are all coming on well."

Schoolboy Jamie Nettleton (Phil Thomas) stopped J Ford (Hartlepool Catholic) in the second round for an emphatic debut win.

Joe Daley (Phil Thomas) won the show curtain raiser on unanimous points against C Clark (Hylton Castle). …
