Tough Tweed Pugilists Tuned to Sting Opponents

TWEED Heads Stingrays fighters Matt Burns (6-6) and Trevor Jacky (3-0) are ready to hit out at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on April 29.

Two of Tony Nobbs' top prospects, Australian No.10 super middleweight Burns will trade blows with Sydney's Mark Pawsey, while No.4 light heavyweight Jacky fights Brisbane's Shannon King.

Thirty-four-year-old Burns, who won the Queensland title and challenged for national light middleweight honours in 2005, is keen to get back to his best and believes a win over Pawsey will keep him on track to challenge for title honours again.

"I want to go through this year undefeated, hopefully win a state title again and then get another crack at the Australian title," he said. "I've got a few fights lined up, including one back in Tweed Heads on July 2, but I have to take care of business in this fight first."

In Burns' most recent bout in November, he knocked down No.7 ranked Australian Chris Stewart in each of the first three rounds before tiring badly and taking a split decision. …
