BUY UK MAIL Investec tells its clients to buy shares in UK Mail, the rival to the Royal Mail postal service. The broker argues that its fourth quarter was "solid" with revenues expected to be in line with forecasts for the year. "The future risk to the numbers looks increasingly on the upside," it says -- in other words, there is a pretty good chance that the company's figures will be upgraded. The broker's target price is 350p compared with today's share price of 333p -- unchanged on the day. "Momentum continues to build in the business," says Investec. In the competitive market for parcel delivery, it has seen good volumes.

SELL NEXT AlphaValue's analyst Virginie Blin today downgraded her view of Next to "reduce" from "add". The researchers have also set a new sixmonth price target for the stock of 2347p a share. Next shares were flat at 2253p today. M&S's strong sales figures should bode well for its archrival in the High Street and AlphaValue's advice to clients is in stark contrast to Citigroup which has just told its clients to buy the shares -- upgrading its advice from the "hold" status it had previously. …
