IT certainly was not a Good Friday for the anglers who fished the Rutherford's Open - unless you were one of the few who caught a fish.

Only one codling was caught, weighing only 1.06lb, but it was large enough for Andy Little, fishing Featherbeds Rocks, to take the first prize of pounds 500.

The only coalfish of 0.83lb, taken from the Blast, gave Neil Martin second place and pounds 300, with Jason Brown and Mick Quayle taking pounds 100 for joint third with flounders of 0.8lb.

Brown also took the pounds 90 prize for the heaviest bag of two flounders for 1.38lb, Little and Gareth Gardiner taking the pairs with 1.42lb, winning pounds 53.

Boat fishing has also been hard work with Ivan Stott and Mick Welsh, fishing just off Newbiggin in Pall II, working hard for their seven cod to 3lb.

Jeff Ayre was the only angler to catch in the Wear Boating Association event, fished by five boats, Ayre taking a cod of 1lb 8oz. …
