Taking on the Men; Sarah Franz Has Shown She Has the Speed to Match It with Anyone

MOTORSPORT: They say it's a man's world.

However, try telling that to Sarah Franz.

Franz, 27, tore up the track Co and a few stereotypes Co when she finished third at the recent Queensland Street Sedan Titles at Monthar Mountain south of Gympie.

The Nambour-based driver became the first female in the 25-year history of the Queensland championships to set foot on the podium.

She called it the biggest result of her career, and one that she hoped to better next year.

"It's not a boys' club any more," she said.

"There were six females altogether and three of us in the main race.

"We took it to the boys."

Franz, who lives in Gympie but races out of Nambour, said her decision to race evolved from her lifelong love of motor sport.

Her family has had a long association with racing.

Six years ago she decided to invest in a team with family members.

She rose through the ranks quickly to become Sunshine Coast Speedway Club champion in 2007-08. …
