THE champagne is already on ice for the Toon's Championship-winning celebrations - but it may be a few bottles short.

That's because brazen thief Christopher Phillips snatched hundreds of pounds worth of the exclusive booze from the corridors of St James' Park.

The sneaky criminal crept into the ground in broad daylight while officials were busy masterminding the Magpies' return to the Premier League.

And once there, he plundered the Sir Bobby Robson and Milburn Suites, breaking into a fridge and swiping Champagne and gin worth pounds 398.

But CCTV caught up with Phillips, who had managed to sneak away unseen after the raid at 1.10pm on Monday, January 4, and he was subsequently arrested.

Now the 27-year-old, of Westgate Road, Newcastle, has been ordered to pay back the cost of the booze after pleading guilty to theft at Newcastle Magistrates' Court.
