WHEN Prime Minister Kevin Rudd got off a plane at Mackay Airport on Thursday it wasn't because of a delay or a security scare.

The leader just wanted to say a simple thank-you to Mackay taxi driver Larry Bryce for looking after his staffers during their visit.

Mr Bryce went to extra lengths to make the staffers comfortable, so one of them was more than happy to comply with his request to have a happy snap with Mr Rudd.

"She said 'once it's all over, when we go to the airport, before he gets on board, I'll have a word to him for a photo'," he said.

However, by the time Mr Bryce arrived at Mackay airport, Mr Rudd had already boarded the plane.

Mr Bryce thought that was the end of it, but while waiting for clearance from the tarmac, the woman came back to the plane entrance to call him over. …
