RESULTS of a $30,000 study that will determine the future of the Elliott River were finally released yesterday, almost six months after they were due.

But the future of the river is still uncertain, with council officers unable to make sense of parts of the study, which was only sent as a rough draft.

Bundaberg Regional Council last year requested a scoping study to be carried out on the area after new sandbars developed, creating a dangerous passage for boats and strong currents for swimmers.

Councillor Danny Rowleson said Griffith University researchers undertook the study but failed to return phone calls or reply to emails up until this week.

"We have been trying to contact people doing the work since December and they didn't take our calls and they certainly didn't return emails," he said.

"We had to request CEO Peter Byrne to contact the university at the highest possible level."

Cr Rowleson said he was disappointed that stakeholders were forced to wait so long. …
