THREE days after she returns from Chile, national player Amy Korner will be back on home turf representing Queensland at the Ipswich Hockey Complex.

She's already thinking about the exciting prospect of playing the first round of the national league (May 7-9) in front of family and friends at Raceview.

With such valuable support - and faith from long-time Queensland Academy of Sport coach Des King - Korner has recovered from a year of injury torment to reclaim her Australian Hockeyroos spot.

Korner's international future looked shaky in 2008 after she was diagnosed with back problems.

However, she's shown a determination similar to another Ipswich achiever - cricketer Shane Watson - to conquer the uncertainty, regain peak fitness and come back a better player.

"I can put some of that down to the support of my family and friends,"' said Korner, 23.

"I've got a really good solid base around me with my family and I really owe a lot to them for keeping me going."

While Korner's parents Nev and Jan have backed her in so many ways, King has offered another form of motivation.

"Des has been fighting for me and he's always in Frank (national coach Frank Murray's) ear about how well I'm going at training," she said.

Korner reflected quietly on all that yesterday as she prepared to leave for Santiago on Saturday.

The Flinders View striker is keen to help the Australians qualify for the World Cup and to improve her hopes of playing at her first Commonwealth Games later this year.

"I'm feeling really good," she said, having represented Australia in 26 games.

"Everyone is working really hard at training and being pushed.

"I definitely want to make the Commonwealth Games this year so that's in the back of my mind."

Korner, who turns 24 while in Chile, had a small celebration last weekend before focusing on scoring goals while overseas. …
