Heddon for the Final; McEwan Books League Cup Date

Article excerpt

Pin Point Recruitment Northern Alliance League Premier Division THE form book counted for nothing in two games in the Kicks Leisure League Cup.

Heddon, who had secured their first home win of the season against Murton three days previously, booked themselves a first appearance in a League Cup final, beating Harraby Catholic Club in their semi-final at Bullocksteads.

Heddon deserved their impressive victory with the tie settled in their favour by a goal for Mark McEwan on the half-hour.

The Heddon lads will be facing either Ponteland United or First Division outfit Hebburn Reyrolle in the forthcoming decider after Reyrolle kept their hopes alive, beating quarter-final opponents Heaton Stannington 3-2 at Grounsell Park.

Lawrence McKenna bagged both of Heaton's goals, but their visitors just shaded it with strikes supplied by Ray Oshin (2) and Gary Dadd.

In second spot behind Wark, Walker Central's recent recovery suffered a blip and they were restricted to a goalless draw at Ashington Colliers.

The Central need to achieve a top-two finish to facilitate their aim of stepping up to the Northern League, but they cannot afford many slip-ups.

With games in hand, both Heaton Stannington and Killingworth Sporting could upset Walker's plans.

Killy, however, seem to have gone off the boil a little and have lost their last two games against Blyth Town and Wark.

Entertaining leaders Wark, they were beaten 2-0 as their visitors bounced back from their own brief dip in form.

Wark's goals were scored in each half by Phil Robinson and substitute Mark Wright to complete a league double.

Blyth Town stayed in third spot just above Killingworth after making it five wins on the trot at the expense of visitors Ponteland United.

Ponteland will be making the same journey on Saturday for a semi-final tie in the Kicks Leisure Challenge Cup. …
