Leadership Program to Honor Beaches Citizens with History of Helping

Henri Landwirth of Ponte Vedra Beach and Suzanne Montgomery of Atlantic Beach will be honored Thursday at Leadership Jacksonville's 15th annual celebration of leadership dinner.

Celebration 2010 is set for 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront. Funds raised from the event benefit those in the organization's youth programs.

In addition to recognizing the accomplishments of the honorees, the evening highlights students completing the program, which annually trains 50 outstanding students from Baker, Duval, Clay and St. Johns county high schools, and the Collegiate Leadership Experience, which emphasizes Jacksonville-area college students' leadership initiatives.

Since his retirement in 1986 from a hotel industry career that spanned 50 years, Landwirth has devoted himself to helping people in need through numerous foundations and nonprofit organizations he has founded, including Give Kids The World.

In 2000, Landwirth founded Dignity U Wear, an organization based in Jacksonville that helps homeless, abused, abandoned or neglected children and their families by providing them with new clothing. The organization supports shelters in nine states.

His latest initiative is called Hate Hurts, a program that shares the message of how important it is to forgive those who have hurt us, as well as ending our own acts of hatred, no matter how small. …
