Former boxing champ Edwin Valero committed suicide in his jail cell on Monday just hours after he was arrested in his wife's killing, police said.

The former lightweight champion used his own clothes to hang himself in his cell early Monday, Venezuelan federal police chief Wilmer Flores told reporters.

Prosecutors said Sunday night that they planned to charge the 28-year-old Valero in the killing of his wife.

The Charlotte Bobcats said an MRI exam on G/F Stephen Jackson's hyperextended left knee shows a small bone bruise but no structural damage.
