Junior Coaching Program Is Starting to Reap Rewards

THE junior coaching program at Rockhampton Table Tennis continues to produce impressive results and a crop of youngsters will represent the city at the Mackay Open Championships next weekend.

The in-form Kerrod Coughlan will be out to repeat his efforts at the recent Bundaberg and Rockhampton open titles where he won both the under-18 and under-21 men's singles championships.

Paula Hockings did not play at the Rum City outing but made up for lost time at the Rocky open when she really impressed in a few sections, including under-21 and top and second grades. She has been stringing some quality results together this year and is displaying improved consistency in the aggressive part of her game.

In the last round of local fixtures in top-grade Hockings conjured a great outcome when pitted against the reliable Christoph Leitner. She fought back magnificently after her opponent appeared to be in control when leading two-nil. Hockings won the last three sets to 7, 5 and 6 points to set up an impressive victory. …
