MANY positive fishing reports have given freshwater and estuary anglers plenty to smile about.

It looks like recent rains have brought with them a bounty of bait and a healthy stock of fish.

In the estuaries, tailor have been caught on surface lures over shallow structure. This includes success in the Southport Broadwater.

Around deeper holes and drop offs in estuaries and rivers (like those in the Brisbane River), good numbers of jewfish, threadfin and snapper are being caught on live and dead baits.

Hinze Dam is the best bet for freshwater anglers.

It is producing good numbers of fish on surface lures and sub-surface plastics.

Fish up to 45cm have been reported, with good numbers of schooling fish visible on the sounder.
