Insulation Firms Feeling the Heat

INSULATION businesses across Toowoomba will be feeling the pain of the Federal Government insulation debacle for a long time to come, according to Toowoomba Insulation owner Jon Willis.

Different businesses report varying strain in the wake of Wednesday's announcement that the scheme would not be reinstated on June 1.

Mr Willis said he had been careful not to over-order stock, particularly once the first cracks began to appear in the scheme last October, but other businesses weren't so lucky.

"Everyone is affected one way or the other," Mr Willis said.

"It has effectively closed everyone's business down because demand has dropped so far and even though I haven't got too much excess stock, I have had to lay off two workers.

"Who I really feel for is the businesses who ordered in heaps of stock for a three-year scheme because it was so hard to come by when the rebate was announced. …
