WHEN it comes to putting something back, Middlesbrough FC is up there with the best of them. The club has one of the biggest football-based community initiatives in the country. And even though Boro's community reputation is already well established, it's great to highlight the outstanding efforts of individual team members.

Riverside stars David Wheater and Danny Coyne have both been named Community Players of the Year.

From strutting the charity catwalk to playing Santa while visiting youngsters in hospital, the pair believe in putting time and effort back in to the local community. For this duo, being a footballer is more than just performance on the pitch.

It's about working to make a difference in the Teesside community.

A great effort. HOW many of us can rely on a job for life these days? Not many. But Eddie Jones has enjoyed a blooming great 44 years as a parks officer with Middlesbrough Council.

From a 16-year-old new starter to an experienced manager now heading for retirement, he's been lucky enough to have a job he's loved -and helped keep the area's green open spaces looking their best. …
