KIERAN Richardson has reaffirmed his commitment to Sunderland - claiming he is certain to stay for a fourth season and be part of "something special" at the Stadium of Light.

Richardson's future has been up for discussion at various points during this campaign with reports claiming that newly-promoted West Brom may launch an ambitious bid to try and take him away from Wearside in the close season.

The 25-year-old gives short shrift to that speculation, saying that he fully intends to see out the remaining 12 months of his fouryear contract. And more importantly, he insists he has the confidence of boss Steve Bruce.

Under the tutelage of his fellow former Manchester United player, Richardson has enjoyed his best season in Sunderland colours, posting decent displays in midfield and defence in the wake of George McCartney falling out of favour.

Richardson's emergence as a leftback of some quality this season may end up saving Bruce a sizeable wedge of his transfer fund.

Wigan are ready to slap an pounds 8million price tag on priority summer target Maynor Figueroa - a prohibitive fee as far as the Black Cats are concerned.
