DURHAM continues to retain its historic charm as a major university city and an important retail destination.

Durham is a cathedral and premier university location. Its centre is a World Heritage Site centred on the narrow streets, the castle and cathedral.

It functions as a market town for the surrounding communities and its sizeable population is in excess of 45,000 people.

Its classic riverside position with steep banks topped by the castle and cathedral has made development difficult to achieve.

The most recent, Prince Bishops shopping centre, successfully combined retail and much-needed citycentre car parking.

For business space utilising modern open-plan space, occupiers have increasingly had to look outside the city centre to locations such as Belmont to the east or closer to the centre in rare modern buildings such as Wycliffe House, where Mapeley Estates is marketing 13,446sq ft on a single floor, close to the city's cricket ground. …
