Byline: Karen Wilson

BORN and bred in the North East, Julian Leighton is co-founder, with Mike Parker, of Orange Bus. Renowned for providing 'clever web stuff', Orange Bus was voted the North East Digital Agency of the Year in top industry magazine The Drum's New Year's honours list 2010.

The firm has enjoyed phenomenal growth since its launch three years ago and has consistently beaten off competition to win a number of projects across the UK.

Where do you live? I live in Gosforth with my wife Tamsin and three children Jamie, 12, Charlie, three, and Gabriel eight months.

How long have you lived there? For two years. Apart from the stuff my wife likes (good schools and nice neighbours), I like the fact I have a garage to put my van in. The only reason I'll move is to a bigger garage.

What's your dream home? It would have to be somewhere warm and sunny and walking distance to a beach where I can surf every day. That would be paradise. How do you get around? A mixture of car, walking and bus. I had a nasty scooter crash a few years ago and spent some time in a wheelchair. Because of that I still take pleasure in being able to walk where I want.

What's your favourite part of the North East? The Northumberland coastline. It is absolutely stunning and my family and I often take day trips out there or take the van and camp out.

What's your favourite building in the region? The Baltic Gallery on the quayside. I love old industrial buildings and it's great to see them turned into something contemporary. The variety of art and guest artists they have is fantastic and it is just such a strong looking building.

What's the best holiday you've ever had? My wife and I travelled around Malaysia and Borneo before we got married. We dived for five days off a remote island and it was an incredible experience. That is definitely the best but just to get some time with the family away somewhere now is a treat.

What's the favourite thing in your home? My stereo. I'm a huge music lover and I couldn't live without music in my house.

If you could have one luxury what would it be? The fastest VW split screen camper in Europe! I fully intend to build and own this one day...

What are you working on at the moment? Orange Bus is growing at a fantastic rate, so that keeps me busy - we're recruiting heavily at the moment due to a number of new account wins so that is taking up more and more time right now. We also have a number of other projects in the start-up stage which are really exciting. I love the buzz that a new venture provides.

Who or what is the love of your life? Other than my wife, two boys and daughter, it has to be my VW camper. It was the inspiration for the name of my company. Where is your favourite place in the North East? …
