BUY MITCHELLS & BUTLERS Buy a round of shares in pub and restaurant group Mitchells & Butlers, says Execution Noble. "It will be difficult to keep wage costs in check, but in our view the risk remains on the upside," analysts write. They note that the rest of the pubcos are targeting increased food within their operations. "As the market becomes progressively more congested we expect growing the margin will be tougher to achieve," Execution warns. Analysts flag up concerns that consumer spending levels may dip this year, but still believe that any share price weakness should be seen as a chance to buy the stock.

SELL J SAINSBURY Head to the check out if you're an investor in supermarket giant Sainsbury's, says Citigroup. "The top four grocers are not gaining much market share and the British public are not eating more on a per capita basis -- calorie consumption has fallen 20% over the past 40 years," analysts report. They add: "Population growth helps, but now that the economy has cooled and sterling collapsed, lofty predictions of a 70 million-strong UK population by 2031 will probably be wide of the mark. …
