MARK CONVERY has suffered the harsh realities of life in a struggling team - and the livewire midfielder can feel hard done by at being released by Darlington.

However far from feeling sorry for himself, Convery, 28, has vowed to try and stay in the professional game.

Since signing for Sunderland in 1999, the wide man has had two spells with Darlington, as well as playing for York and Cambridge.

He has been one of Darlington's better players towards the end of the season, and set up both goals with pinpoint crosses in the win at Macclesfield this month.

In typical upbeat mood, he said: "I enjoyed being back in the side. I had a buzz about me, I tried my best and I set up goals. The manager has his own ideas of who he wants to bring in. I respect that, and while I'm disappointed not to be staying, I was in the team to the end and didn't let the season fizzle out. …
