Suspect Charged in Shooting Death; U.S. Marshals Brought Him Back from Puerto Rico to Jacksonville

Article excerpt

A man accused in a February 2009 shooting death at a Jacksonville nightclub has been arrested.

Omar Santiago, 24, of the 8300 block of Princeton Square Boulevard was charged with murder Tuesday. Lt. Larry Schmitt of the Sheriff's Office homicide unit said Santiago was arrested in Puerto Rico by U.S. deputy marshals and transported back to Jacksonville.

Santiago was wanted in the death of Juan Carlos Justo, 26, who was shot multiple times about 1 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009, at Club Aqua, 11000 Beach Blvd. The club was full when Justo was killed.

Justo's girlfriend, who was at the club with him, identified Santiago as the shooter and said the two had a conversation inside the club before Justo was shot.

The families of Justo and Santiago have had a long running feud, and police believe that led to the shooting, Schmitt said.

According to an arrest report, Santiago denied killing Justo when he was returned to Jacksonville.
