QUOTABLE

"I'd like to pick all my guys, but it just didn't work out, and unfortunately for Taylor [Mays], it was a hard day for him. His expectations were very, very high, and mine, too. So I feel for him."

- Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who coached Mays at Southern Cal. Mays criticized his former coach for not picking him in the NFL Draft.

NFL HOPEFUL SPURNED BY HOMETOWN TEAM AND HIS FORMER COACH

If Florida fans think Tim Tebow was spurned by his hometown NFL team, then Taylor Mays has a story for them.

Mays, a highly rated safety out of Southern Cal, probably thought he had the perfect situation with coach Pete Carroll taking the job in Seattle.

Mays, who was born in Seattle and attended high school there, knew the Seahawks had a need at his position and thought he might be reunited with Carroll.

Carroll ended up taking Texas safety Earl Thomas with the 14th pick in the first round Thursday night. Mays felt betrayed.

Imagine if Urban Meyer was the coach of the Jaguars and decided to pass on his former quarterback after convincing him to come back for his senior season.

Hard to imagine, but that's what it's been like the last few days for Mays.

"I probably have the biggest chip on my shoulder than anybody in the draft," Mays said Friday in a conference call, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

"It was interesting," Mays said. "I thought from the relationship that we have, the things he had told me about, what I needed to be aware of through the draft process, things I needed to do, I felt like he told me the complete opposite of the actions that he took, which was alarming."
