City Rescue Mission in Jacksonville will unveil its newly renovated emergency services center with an open house from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 22.

The New Life Inn is the result of renovating its main building and will increase its overnight capacity from 44 to 67 beds, Patrick Hayle, the downtown agency's executive director, said in a news release. The renovation also created six additional showers and a dedicated clothing storage and distribution area.

"We have seen a 30 percent increase in request for services as more men and women fall through the safety net and end up on our city streets," mission Chief Operating Officer Bill Duguid said in the release.

The facility is at 234 W. State St. The open house will include a volunteer appreciation ceremony and a barbecue.

The mission is a faith-based nonprofit that serves the homeless and needy. It serves about 280,000 meals a year and provided 90,000 bed nights in 2009, according to the release. More information is available at www.crmjax.org.
