SEVEN years ago Bundaberg Orchid Society members wanted to share their passion with the public, so they put together a book about how to grow orchids.

The popularity of the book outstripped all expectations and the society sold about 19,000 copies a[pounds sterling] including a number to overseas buyers.

With the booklet still in demand, the group has updated the contents and will launch a second edition of Orchid Growing in Queensland at 10am today at the Bundaberg Civic Centre, as part of the organisation's annual orchid show.

Bundaberg Orchid Society president Alwyn Heidke said the group did not expect to sell the 1000 copies that were printed in the first run, let alone release a second edition.

"Our aim was and is to pass on our knowledge on how to cultivate and grow orchids, and the group thought a book would be a good way to do it," he said.

Mr Heidke said he thought the book was successful because it was easy to understand. …
