Cyclones Blow through Tigers

Article excerpt

CYCLONES-4 TIGERS-2

THE Northern Storm Cyclones started in a positive fashion and were duly rewarded against a plucky Coffs Coast Tigers.

Good inroads were being made by the Cyclones through Jessie Reeves down the left-hand side and solid defence and counter attack by Bonnie Chalker and Ellie Hayes.

The Tigers main attack was centred around Hannah Wilson who is always a threat with pace and ball skills.

With Bonnie Chalker back for the Storm Emma-Jane Manning had more freedom to get forward and a great through ball found Elicia Webber who made no mistake and the Cyclones led by one. It wasn't long and another run by Emma-Jane Manning found an unmarked Amanda Riley who secured the Cyclones second goal.

After oranges the majority of the play was in the Tiger's half but solid defence and missed opportunities kept the scorers quiet. Emma-Jane Manning hit a bullet-like free kick from out wide which rattled the bar but her 45-metre free kick attempt brought about a tremendous save by the Tigers 'keeper who just managed to tip it over the bar. Ellie Hayes was making huge inroads into the Tigers tiring defence and soon Amanda Rudd got on the scorecard with a good finish.

The Tigers fought back through goals to Hannah Wilson and Chantelle Wendt to bring the margin back to one.

Set for a tight finish Manning again found Webber after a searching run through the middle. Webber sealed the game for the Cyclones with her second goal. Fulltime saw a morale-boosting win to the Storm.
