'New' Hospital Website Shows Good and Bad

HAZEL Bridgett says there is nothing new in the new MyHospital website put together by a Sydney newspaper.

The MyHospital website uses statistics already collected and published by NSW Health and puts them together in easy-to-read comparison listings and tables.

Ms Bridgett, the Chair of the North Coast Area Health Advisory Council, said hospitals and health administrators used such statistics extensively to track performance but she doubted that most members of the public would be interested, unless they had a personal or political interest in the figures.

The website shows that Coffs Harbour Base Hospital slips into the red for waiting times for Emergency Department patients with potentially serious but not life-threatening conditions, but has better results for people with more serious and less serious conditions.

The hospital's worst ED result statistically is managing to see only 59 per cent of triage 3 (potentially life-threatening) cases within 30 minutes and a dismal 51 per cent of Triage 4 (potentially serious) cases within one hour. …
