Film Lou Promises Cannes in Tweed; RED CARPET AFFAIR: Director Planning Gala Night for Premiere

MURWILLUMBAH director Belinda Chayko wants to bring "Cannes to Murwillumbah" when her film Lou opens in cinemas next month.

Plans for a red carpet gala and a question and answer session with Ms Chayko at the Murwillumbah Regent Cinema are underway for the film's opening night on June 17.

It will be a month after the world premiere at the upcoming Dungog Film Festival on May 27.

Ms Chayko said she was determined to bring Cannes to the Tweed after her Australian film missed out on a spot at the international Festival de Cannes.

"The international film selector for Cannes really liked Lou, but it came down to a whole committee decision in the end," Ms Chayko told the Tweed Daily News.

"I'm just honoured to have the selector say he liked the film. Only about 20 films from around the world are selected for Cannes each year."

Lou is a family drama about the relationship between 11-year-old Lou, played by newcomer Lily Bell-Tindley and her Alzheimer-suffering grandfather, played by Golden Globe winning actor John Hurt. …
