World Top-10 Mission; Matthews Primed for US Series

PAUL Matthews will set off on his annual US sojourn this month with the goal of returning to Australia ranked among the top 10 triathletes in the world.

The Casuarina 27-year-old said a gruelling training regime under new coach Craig Walton had him in the best shape of his life.

Matthews hopes to build on his good results in the 70.3 Ironman Series from last year and then tackle the World Ironman Championships.

"Training has been going really well. I was sick last week but other than that, everything has been going really good and I am training the best I ever have," Matthews said.

"Everything's going good, I am feeling fit - the fittest I ever have."

Matthews bases himself in Boulder, Colorado, each year and stays with world champion Craig Alexander while tackling the 10-race series. "I think it is going to be a good year. It is exciting to head to America and get back racing. …
