PLAYERS at this weekend's local rugby league derby between Murwillumbah Mustangs and Cudgen Hornets have an opportunity to impress some of the game's local legends this weekend.

The Tweed District Men of League (TDMoL) is pulling together some great players of the past for Heritage Round this weekend to fundraise for former rugby league players who have fallen on hard times.

Mick Kennedy, of TDMoL, said the organisation was taking advantage of the game at Ned Byrne Park to raise much-needed funds.

"The old boys from Cudgen and Murwillumbah are coming down to join in on our bowls day and we've also got some legends of football turning out there so it should be a great day," he said.

Lawn bowls will start at 9.30am before the football gets underway at noon. The $30 entry fee includes a meal at the Cudgen Leagues Club and refreshments.

"We'll have a large drive for membership on the day and money raised assists past players of rugby league and their families who have fallen on hard times or have suffered injuries and need assistance," he said. …
