Pound Puppies' Fate Rests with Finding Homes

LUCY Lu and Pancake are healthy and happy little dogs but they got lost and now they need their owners to come and find them.

The two little bundles have made their way to the council pound and will have to be re-homed if their owners do not collect them soon.

More than 70 dogs are at the council's pounds, awaiting homes after a hectic three weeks for council compliance officers.

Of 125 dogs picked up across the Fraser Coast by compliance officers during the past three weeks, just 46 could be identified and returned to their owners.

"That has left us with 79 dogs to re-home, which is going to be extremely difficult," compliance officer Gaye Ah Quay said.

"Anyone taking on a dog should ensure that their fences will contain their pet in their yard.

"Our pound facilities can not cope with an influx of animals like this so we have to find temporary accommodation while we try to locate owners. …
