THE GHAN.

It's an odd name for a train but in Australian history it is a living legend.

The legend has soared to new heights with the extension of The Ghan journey to Darwin.

The extension of the line from Alice Springs to Darwin has created a spectacular transcontinental 29,79km train journey.

Named after the Afghan cameleers who once plied the route, The Ghan travels between Darwin and Adelaide, through the very centre of Australia over three remarkable days.

Jetset Travel and Hervey Bay Transit Centre are pleased to offer the people of the Fraser Coast a fully escorted tour which features The Ghan this year.

Of course the tour will do more than just the ride the train: It will take in some of the Northern Territories' and South Australia's most beautiful scenic areas.

With this tour there is the benefit of an experienced tour guide to take the worry out of your holiday, and to make your journey as informative as possible.

This means that you will not only take in the grandeur of the country, you will be educated on the geographical, indigenous and European history of the area as well.

The tour includes all flights and transfers, so that all you have to do is wait out the front of your home to depart and be dropped right back there on return.

This tour is ideally suited for seniors.

The tour starts with pick up at home and coach transfer to Brisbane for your flight to Darwin.

After a welcome dinner, there will be a city sights tour for the perfect introduction to Darwin, with expert commentary by a local guide taking in the historic sights of the city including the East Point Military Precinct, Stokes Hill Wharf, and the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.

That night there will be a unique tropical dining experience aboard the Schooner Alfred Nobel as you cruise the beautiful and historic Darwin Harbour. …
