A SALE ring reject could turn out to be a Northern Rivers superstar after blasting away a field of decent maidens at Kyogle Cup day at the Lismore racecourse on Saturday.

Far Dooley, a two-year-old prepared by Owen Glue, won by five lengths in its first raceday trip to the track - but its life could have turned out much differently.

The horse could have ended up at the knackery and owes its new life to Goonellabah man Ian Crawford.

Crawford is a pin-hooker - a man with a good eye for a horse who is at all the sales searching for a bargain. He puts a value on a horse and if the market doesn't meet his assessment he jumps in - a real bargain hunter.

Far Dooley could turn out to be one of his best finds.

After it was passed in at the Magic Millions weanling sales of 2008, Crawford was offered the horse for a paltry $1000 - a bargain, he thought. …
