Runners Have Fun in SCU Fundraiser; Darrel Chapman Memorial Event Raises Money for Our Kids

OVER 500 eager fun runners donned their joggers and hit the streets of East Lismore yesterday for the annual Darrel Chapman Fun Run.

The event, which started in 1993, is organised by Southern Cross University students as part of a subject called 'sports facilities and events'.

Fun run media promotions co-ordinator and student Josh Pascoe said the event provided students with hands-on experience in event management.

"We have learnt about time management, organisational skills and media skills," he said.

About 20 students took the subject and spent three months organising the event.

The 3km route was won by Stuart Lorimer in the men's division and Jessica Gilfillan in the women's.

The 6km route was won by Henry Pye in the men's division and Courtney Gilfillan in the women's.

However, not all entrants were in it to win. Dr Dave Arthur, of Southern Cross University, was seen pushing local pediatrician Dr Chris Ingall along the route in a cot with wheels. …
