Noosa's Hastings Street Set to Be Put under Surveillance

MOVES are afoot to install surveillance cameras in Noosa's most prestigious street in an effort to deter violence and vandalism in the area.

Hastings Street is often described as the Rodeo Drive of the Sunshine Coast, and cameras would help protect an $8 million investment in the street's makeover.

The father of a young man assaulted in the early hours of March 1 last year this week called for the installation of security cameras, noting their ability to help already stretched police solve crimes quickly.

Robert Lees said his son was a commercial artist and award-winning photographer with huge potential but he had not been able to work since the assault. He said he did not socialise any more.

His son suffered a traumatic brain injury, cheek fracture and deep cut under his eye when he was punched once and then kicked while unconscious. He suffered a seizure last week for which he had scans yesterday.

Two attackers received jail sentences in court this week. …
