Exhibitions Reflect Individual's Imagination; Galleries Host Works from Some of Region's Artists

SOLO exhibitions allow a glimpse into the creative imagination of the individual that can be illuminating, rewarding, sometimes confusing, often challenging, and occasionally downright disappointing.

Current local and regional exhibitions reflect all these responses to some degree, while at the same time provoking thoughts about life, memory, and the definition of art.

USQ Arts Gallery

The Arts Gallery at the University of Southern Queensland is hosting Tiffany Shafran's exhibition "Remembrancera, an edgy, beautiful, and sometimes dark inquiry into reality and its fey partner, fantasy.

Shafran uses found objects, but infuses them with new energy and significance. A chandelier, casting an ornate shadow, clasps a child's toy.

A vitrine encases a blindfolded doll's head cushioned on velvet and silk fringing.

The skeleton jaws of a cow become ritual artefacts decorated with diamantes and finely drawn studies of galleons and giant sea monsters. A cabinet of curiosities gives the ordinary a sense of importance.

The a[approximately]remembrancer', the keeper of memories, for whom the artist becomes mid-wife, uses memory itself to connect objects and experience in a fabricated world of the imagination.

Attic Art Space (upstairs 249 Margaret Street, open Saturdays 12-2pm) is holding "Magnetic Arrest," an exhibition of petite ceramics and two dimensional art works by Daniel Qualischefski. …
