A WIFE-BEATING care home worker who stamped on his partner's head in a jealous rage has been spared jail.

Teesside Crown Court heard how Stewart Snelson, 51, and now ex-wife Vicky McNaughton, had a "volatile" relationship.

The couple had been together for about a year when the two separate attacks took place last November.

On Bonfire Night, Snelson, of The Vale, Grove Hill, Middlesbrough, accused Vicky, who has four young children from a previous relationship, of an affair.

Prosecutor John Gillette said: "He grabbed her by the throat and began to strangle her.

"When she was on the floor he stamped on her head."

Vicky was so terrified she escaped through a kitchen window.

Obsessed Snelson then accused her of infidelity again onNovember 21, and another row ensued where he got Vicky on the floor and tried to strangle her.

Mr Gillette said: "She squeezed him in the groin area, and that stopped the attack."

Snelson was also convicted for carrying a knife. …
