Marlins Promote Stanton; Outfielder, 20, Hit a Minors-Best 21 Homers for Jacksonville

Mike Stanton's childhood dream came true Sunday when the Florida Marlins informed him that they were calling him up to the major leagues.

"I've dreamed about playing in the major leagues since I was 9 or 10 years old," Stanton said after Friday's game, his last in Jacksonville. "I have the confidence that I'll succeed when I do get there. Just having my family and friends be able to see me at that level will be great. It'll be just unbelievable to have that opportunity."

Stanton began the season as one of the game's top young prospects. Baseball America rated him as the No. 3 prospect behind Atlanta outfielder Jason Heyward and Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg. While Heyward is the front-runner for National League Rookie of the Year, Stanton and Strasburg will both make their debuts on Tuesday about 125 miles apart on Tuesday. Stanton will be in Philadelphia against the Phillies; Strasburg is scheduled to be on the mound in Washington against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
