SUNDERLAND will look to make at least three further additions to their squad after clinching deals for goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and defender Marcos Angeleri, writes MARK DOUGLAS.

Both Mignolet and Angeleri have been on Wearside this week finalising the details of five and four-year contracts respectively - with Sunderland hoping to announce the double capture over the weekend.

Having filled the right-back and back up keeper vacancies, The Journal understands that Black Cats manager Steve Bruce (pictured left) is now looking for a left-back, a centre-back and ideally another striker to complete his summer recruitment drive. Strengthening the defence is the priority with Bruce's top target understood to be Manchester City's talented pounds 4mrated Nedum Onuoha, who can play centre-back or right-back.

And he is also trawling the market for a left-back with some degree of uncertainty still lingering over Kieran Richardson's desire to continue in a defensive role next season. Although Richardson told The Journal last month he would be happy to continue playing at left-back next term, talks over his new contract are still at an early stage. Bruce has told the former Manchester United man he sees him as a defender - something that Richardson is mulling over before signing his new deal. While Bruce is largely happy with his midfield options after signing Paraguay international Cristian Riveros, he would also like to add a striker to compete with Kenwyne Jones, Darren Bent, Fraizer Campbell and Martyn Waghorn - who is unlikely to be allowed out on loan again. To have completed half of their business already represents excellent progress by Sunderland, who make a habit of planning two transfer windows in advance.

And while Bruce will not be resistant to bringing in good players who suddenly become available, he has already spoken at length about his desire not to make wholesale changes like last summer. …
