FAMILIES across the North East have been making the most of scorchingly hot days of almost unbroken sunshine.

Hats and sun cream were the order of the day as the sun beat down on the region.

And people were out and about at attractions in Newcastle, Northumberland and elsewhere to make the most of the excellent weather.

The coast was the place to go and, despite the lure of daytime World Cup matches, families headed to Tynemouth. Parents and children enjoyed a paddle in the waves and ice creams to help them cool down at Longsands.

People also headed to the beaches in South East Northumberland, and Blyth Beach proved to be a hit with locals looking to catch a few rays.

Cooling water was also the focus down at Ridley Park, also in Blyth, with children enjoying a play in the fountains.

And with temperatures estimated at 22C, the good spell looks likely to last into tomorrow, despite rain being forecast in other regions. …
