Miyazato Is Hot Favourite

NEWLY-installed women's world number one Ai Miyazato will attempt to add a first major title to her resume with a victory at this week's LPGA Championship in upstate New York.

The Japanese golfer won her fourth tournament of the year at the Shoprite LPGA Classic in New Jersey last Sunday to take over top spot in the rankings and will go into the second major of the year as hot favourite at Locust Hill Country Club near Rochester.

Miyazato, who turned 25 last Saturday, said: "It feels like I haven't put any pressure on myself. It's another start, another beginning of my career I guess. So I'm still enjoying my process and we'll see what's going to happen."

A major victory is the next logical step for Miyazato's career to take.

She won her first tournament last season and began the 2010 campaign with back-to-back wins at the Honda PTT LPGA in Thailand, where she shot a career-low 63 in the final round, and the HSBC Women's Champions.

"In 2009 I won the Evian Masters and that gives me huge confidence," she said. …
