THE top of the Warmseal Durham Senior League is incredibly tight with a mere six points separating the top four sides. And those leading teams clash head on today as first plays second and fourth takes on third.

Whitburn leapt four places to the top of the pack last week and they face an immediate challenge to their new found status from in-form Felling. Ian Elliot is unavailable for the leaders with Jake Fowler promoted while Felling have to do without the services of youngster Alex Brown for around six weeks after a knee injury sustained in their last match. Mike Malthouse returns just in time to fill the vacant slot.

Burnmoor have only won three of their ten matches to date, yet remain in close contact having lost on just the one occasion. Barry Dews takes his place in today's starting line-up for the Moor to put them at maximum strength for their home clash with early pacesetters Boldon, who name an unchanged side.

At the opposite end of the table, Philadelphia and Castle Eden are level on points and propping up the rest.

Phili have been boosted by the news of Bobby Steel's return to fitness and he plays in the Bunker Hill match against a Durham side missing Danni Hazell, but replenished by former Phili man Marc Hopkinson.

A couple of weeks ago Castle Eden's trip to Norton would have looked an away banker, but the Teesside club have suddenly found their DSL feet, while Castle's have slipped from under them and an unchanged home team will be looking to make it three wins in a row.

In today's other games, Anthony Peace is in the Horden team to play against a Marsden side that includes Ben Ali, and full strength Eppleton tackle unchanged South Hetton.

In the Durham County League, for Evenwood it's a case of bring it on today as they gird their loins for the visit of champions and table-toppers Kimblesworth. The home team are in a purple patch of form that culminated in their defeat of the powerful Esh Winning outfit last week, a victory that took them into second spot and endowed them with a feeling of confidence ahead of today's clash. …
