SOME people seem to have their career paths marked out from birth.

her Middlesbrough mum Ellie Cook is a perfect example of this - because you guessed it, she's a cook.

And a pretty good one at that! Ellie, chef manager at Kirkley Lodge care home in Coulby Newham, has made it through to the final of a national catering competition.

And the 37-year-old is one of four chefs who will now go through to the Grand Final of Anchor's Chef of the Year competition.

Mum-of-two Ellie, who has worked at Kirkley Lodge for nearly two years, said: "This challenge is good fun and it benefits the residents living in Anchor's care homes ultimately as it further pushes us to produce better and more creative meals for them.

"I chose to make this menu as all the flavours are light and refreshing, and all the ingredients are nutritionally balanced."

To qualify, Ellie pitted her culinary wits against eight others in a two-hour cook-off at Croydon College. …
