ADEVASTATED wife has spoken about her husband's brave battle, three months after he was given just 24 hours to live.

Terry Steinberg, 50, had just become a father for the fourth time when he was found unconsciousness on his bathroom floor by his wife Clair.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital on April 2 were he was told he had suffered two mini strokes.

But while in hospital, Terry had a major progressive brain stem stroke and his family were told he only had 48 hours to live.

And after only being given a one in 100 chance of surviving, his family, including his one-year-old daughter Miley, were called to keep a bedside vigil.

Now Terry, who has been in hospital for more than three months, has been left paralysed from the neck down.

Today Clair told The Journal of her heartache and how painful it is see the fun loving family man in hospital. The mum-of-one, of Roselea Avenue, Ryhope, Sunderland said: "It's horrendous he's just so frustrated and depressed in there. He is completely aware of what is going on but he can't tell us want he wants.

"It's so hard for him to know that Miley will see him like that. I feel so sorry for him knowing that he will miss out on dad and daughter things."

Clair, 32, added: "Miley didn't see her dad on her birthday because she had chicken pox.

"But when he does see her he cries like a baby. All he wants to do is cuddle her but he can't, he can't even speak to her.

"Miley doesn't understand what's wrong. But when the two of us are at home she points to the photograph we have on the wall and shouts 'daddy daddy'. It's so heart rendering to listen to her." And to add further heartache, Clair has been told that little Miley has a problem with one of her kidneys and will have to have it removed. The tot is due to go to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary Hos-pital to have the surgery. …
