Burglars Can't Stop This Church; Almost $15,000 in Goods Stolen, but Life Church Keeps Going

ATHENS, Ga. - Members of Life Church of Athens didn't miss a beat in Sunday worship after thieves hauled off the musical equipment and electronic gear that's integral to their multimedia services.

Church members discovered a keyboard, microphones and other equipment gone when they arrived Sunday for Bible study.

They quickly scrounged up enough replacement gear for the 10:30 a.m. service to start on time and with the church's regular style, said Tim Vaughn, lead pastor.

"We improvised the best we could, and we had a very good service," Vaughn said.

Life Church meets in Barnett Shoals Elementary School in Southeastern Clarke County, and members found that thieves stole not just the keyboard and microphones, but a stage monitor, a digital sound board and other equipment with a value of $14,680.

Two video monitors valued at $1,700 and owned by the Clarke County School District also were stolen, Athens-Clarke police said.

"I don't think it was just targeting the church, but they were in the school and saw some of our equipment and took it," Vaughn said. …
