United Way Vice President to Lead LISC; Janet Owens Replaces Joni Foster, Who Retired in May

Janet Owens will lead community development on a large scale when she starts her new job in August.

The United Way of Northeast Florida vice president of marketing and communications was selected to become LISC Jacksonville's new executive director.

She replaces Joni Foster, who retired in May. LISC is a national nonprofit that works with other nonprofits to ensure their success in community building through programs, lending, staffing and arranging grants.

"This is my dream job," said Owens. "It's the convergence of what I've worked on in my early career in community development, meshing with my nonprofit work and my tenure in banking."

It's this combination of experience and passion that led to Owens being selected for the position, said Greta Harris, LISC program vice president for the Southern United States.

Harris said one of the reasons Owens was selected was her experience that will lend to leading LISC's Building Sustainable Communities initiative in Jacksonville, a project that has been introduced to 65 communities across the nation.

This initiative will work on increasing quality of life in neighborhoods in the sectors of health, education and wealth-building in addition to expanding physical developments such as health clinics and commercial development. …
